Quick Update!! :)

Hey Everyone,
Sorry I've been so delayed lately. I'm currently working on the next post. However, I just wanted to do a quick update. I finally opened up my business called Beauty by JaLeeda LLC. I have also been working on a couple of photoshoots and I have more this coming week.

The one thing that has been consuming my time and that I am absolutely grateful for is an event my team and I put together called YOU CAN MAKE IT, this event is taking place at the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children. We are going there to give makeovers and to provide donations. The second event that has been taking up my time is with RAW (Natural Born Artist). I will be showcasing with them this year here in Atlanta. I'm super excited about everything!

Below I will leave links in case you are interested in helping out, sharing support, or even purchasing tickets for my event with RAWartist.org, thanks. I'll talk to you all soon! So very sorry its been awhile and I will make it up soon!

Color Correcting Dark Spots, Dark Circles, & Problem Areas

Hi Beauties,

This blog is specifically about covering dark spots, dark circles, and darkness around the mouth area. I will discuss how you can do this with different skin complexions. Most times as beauties, we cannot find foundation or concealer to cover up these flaws.

What you can do to fix these trouble areas is by using a corrector or a neutralize shade.

How do I know this? Simple, if you look at the color wheel...

You can see green is across from red - Using a green corrector, neutralizes redness
You can see orange is across from blue - Using a orange corrector, neutralizes dark discoloration
You can see yellow is across from purple - Using a yellow corrector, concealers purple undertones

When you apply a corrector onto your problem areas, you can neutralize any discoloration.

For fair/pale shades, you can use a soft orange or light peach color corrector for dark circle or dark spots.
For medium and darker complexions, you can use a deep peach or deep orange to neutralize the blue or dark discoloration.

I know that sounds a bit crazy, however, you can apply the corrector with a sponge onto the problem area, then apply your regular full makeup application.

I also highly recommend using the Revlon PhotoReady Color Correcting Primer, next apply the color corrector, and then your foundation.

Where can you find color corrector shades? (I'll list a few places where you can purchase different types for different skin complexion)

Makeup Questions You Want Answers To: PART I

Happy Love Day

Hello Beauties,

Hope you all are having a great Valentines Day. I wanted to share my love with my subscribers by answering questions most beauties want answers to.

I know that I am asked a lot of different questions about makeup, how to apply it, what colors to wear, etc. I wanted to take the time to blog about common questions I am asked and hoping this will help you in some way. If you have any questions that you want answers to please leave them in the comment box below and I will answer them on the next blog post.

HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT FOUNDATION FOR MY FACE?
There is different skin types such as normal, dry, or oily/combination. The key is discovering your skin type first. Most foundations will indicate if it is for normal, dry, or oily/combination skin. Based on your skin type is the foundation you want to search for. Most foundations will indicate what skin type it is suitable for. A tip to think about is if you have oily/combination skin, you don't want to wear a foundation that is oil base.

HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT SHADE FOUNDATION?
Never match foundation to the color of your hand, it is not the color of your face. If you are able to try on the foundation, take a dab on your face, blend it in, if it barely shows, then you have found the shade that matches your skin complexion. If the shade seems too dark or too light when you rub it is, it is not the right shade. If you are unable to test the foundation, then you want to look for the closest shade that will match your neck. If you cannot decide on one, you can pick up two shades that will match your skin tone and perhaps mixing the colors will create the right shade.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY FOUNDATION LAST ALL DAY?
In order to make your foundation long lasting you want to put something in between your face and your foundation. Once you moisturize your face, I will suggest using a primer. Also, look for a foundation that indicates it is long lasting.

I HAVE BAD ACNE, SHOULD I EVEN WEAR MAKEUP?
You can wear makeup even if you have bad acne. Make sure to follow a daily skincare routine for day and night, to prevent clogging your pores.

WILL MAKEUP CAUSE ME TO HAVE WRINKLES WHEN I'M OLD?
Makeup causing wrinkles is a myth. A lot of the time wrinkles are caused by age, UV lighting, smoking, poor nutrition, and repeated facial expressions. Don't believe me, here's a link to mayoclinic.com

MAKEUP MAKES MY FACE BREAKOUT, WHAT MAKEUP CAN I WEAR?
If your face is breaking out due to makeup, you might want to consider makeup that is very light to the face. Perhaps sheer to medium coverage foundation and instead of an oil base foundation, wear a foundation that is water base. Be careful with certain products, because your skin may also be sensitive to certain ingredients. Also, be sure to have a daily morning and night skincare routine, this will decrease your face from breaking out often.

I HAVE DARK SPOTS ON MY FACE, BUT MY FOUNDATION DOESN'T COVER IT WELL. IS THERE ANOTHER OPTION?
Dark spots on the face is usually caused by pigmentation issues, acne scars, facial hair removal, and skin discoloration. You can take a peach concealer onto the darker areas, blend this on to the dark spots first, then apply foundation on top. You can also apply a color correcting primer to the face to balance out the skin tone, plus applying a full coverage foundation can cover these areas better. If you are interested in a more in depth detailing about how to use color correcting makeup, let me know, I'd love to share.

I HAVE THIS HUGE PIMPLE ON MY FACE, HOW CAN I HIDE IT?
I will suggest getting the Clean & Clear Spot Treatment, apply this after your morning skin care routine, then use a cream base foundation such as MAC Studio Finish Concealer, which is a very heavy base concealer, you can dab this onto the problem area. Then once you apply your foundation, the pimple shouldn't show nearly as much. However, you don't want to agitate it, so I suggest not wearing makeup, unless you absolutely have to.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT CONCEALER TO BUY?
This is totally up to you. If you want to hide certain areas, you can use a cream base concealer, and if you want to highlight the face you can use a liquid.

SHOULD I APPLY LIQUID FOUNDATION BEFORE POWDER FOUNDATION?
After applying liquid foundation and applying a powder foundation will make your face cakey. However, it will always be liquid before powder. If you are going to set your liquid foundation, use a setting powder or a translucent powder.

WHAT COLOR BLUSH SHOULD I CHOOSE?
You can wear any color blush you'd like. You can also base the color of the blush based of the eye shadow colors you are wearing. For example, if you are doing a dark smokey eye, you might want to go with a more natural, bronze, or soft glow blush. This way you don't take away from the smokey eye. I'll list pictures below so you can identify with the idea.

WHAT KIND OF CONCEALER SHOULD I USE FOR MY DARK CIRCLES AND UNDER MY EYE?
If you are trying to cover up the dark circles around the eyes, you can use either or cream base or liquid base concealer. However, it has been common to use more of a cream base to cover up the problem area.

WHERE CAN I FIND CHEAP MAKEUP BRUSHES THAT WILL WORK?
There's all type of brushes you can find for a great deal that will get the job done. If you want brushes that are just like MAC brushes, I suggest Sigma Beauty brushes, plus they sell kits and brushes individually. You can also find brushes at Crown Brush, BH Cosmetics, Morphe Brushes, and Real Techniques.

WHERE CAN I FIND INEXPENSIVE EYESHADOWS WITH NICE PIGMENTATION?
There are ton of brands that sell nice pigmented eyshadows, such as Wet N Wild, Morphe Brushes, BH Cosmetics, and Coastal Scents

WHAT BRAND IS A GOOD BRAND WHERE I CAN BUY MULTIPLE ITEMS FOR A GOOD DEAL?
Personally, I love the NYX Cosmetics, they make a ton of products that work wonderfully. They sell HD foundations, concealers, matte foundation, bronzers, blushes, and lipsticks. I have raved about NYX to clients because it is inexpensive and is great quality.

HOW CAN I GET RID OF CRACKING AND FLAKY LIPS WHILE WEARING LIPSTICK?
If possible, try taking a sugar lip scrub, apply it to your lips, take a dry clean toothbrush, and brush your lips as if you are brushing your teeth. Be very gentle, you don't want to scrub too hard. Rinse your lips and apply a lip balm or lip moisturizer. Also, some brands have lipsticks that can be very drying to the lips, therefore you might want to search for a brand that is quality made.

Remember, any questions that you have please leave in the comments below, I will answer them all in PART II

Valentines Day Self Beauty Idea

Almost Valentines Day...

What are you doing? ...

What about doing a little something for yourself? ... Good idea huh?

Valentines Day is coming up, some of us are single, married, or in relationships right? Well, it doesn't matter what our status is, we can all indulge in some beauty for ourselves. Almost like a gift of love to yourself.

Well here's my idea...

Wake up, clean my face, put on my favorite chocolate mask, shower, clean it off... Then beautify. I love to pamper myself, so why not take the time out to rejuvenate the face, take a steamy shower or a hot bath, and relax? Then once your done you can put on your makeup and do what ever it is that you like.

Most times, we are so busy doing for others, working, or just too tired. It's very rare that we have time to give to ourselves, but if you can give yourself just ONE hour in the morning of Valentines Day, it will lift your spirits regardless of what your status may be. Considering, its not just about the love and gifts you receive from another, but the love and gift you can give to yourself.

Here's the eye look that I did after I gave myself an hour of pampering in the morning...

Here's the palettes that I used to achieve this look. Made by Morphe Brushes Palette 35B Color Glam Palette ($19.95) and 10 Color Blush Palette ($15.95)

Beauty On A Budget: Wet N Wild Eyeshadow Singles

Brilliant product Wet N Wild.

Recently, I bought the Wet N Wild Eyeshadow Singles and I have to say I am very impressed. The shadows are nicely pigmented and quality made. The texture has a satin feel and applies beautifully. I will do swatches with and without an eyeshadow base, so that if you want to intensify the color more, or prevent fall out, a base is always suggested.

The real kicker to this product is that it only cost me $1.99 each at my local drugstore.
Here's a list of the shadows I purchased below
Platinum (C302)
Stagedive (C307)
Panther (C255C)

These are perfect for beauties on a budget.

IMATS: Los Angeles 2014

Hello Beauties,
Sorry, I haven't blogged in over a week. I went to Los Angeles and it was pretty amazing. I love the people, the weather, the atmosphere, the creativity, and the diversity. I didn't really care for the food too much. Every time I turned around I saw sushi, which I love, and fast food, that was horribly disgusting, and then everything else just seem to be incredibly healthy, that I didn't care for. I explored all over LA, from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Pasadena, Arcadia, Hollywood, ETC. It was really fun and amazing. I love LA.

Now on to the good stuff. I went to IMATS on Sunday and it was a FULL HOUSE. I literally felt like I was at a concert. However, all my favorite makeup stores and new stores that I didn't know exist were there. I bought things that I felt were really essentials to my personal kit and my client kit. I'll list a few things I got below.

Naked Cosmetics Pigments (2 Rows) 2 for $50
Graftobian Airbrush $275
Graftobian Soft Orange Concealer $8.00
Morphe Brush 10 Color Blush Palette $10
Morphe Brush 35B - 35 Color Glam Palette $15
Morphe Brush 4 Color Brow Palette $5.00
Frends Beauty - 2 Beauty Blenders w/ Solid Beauty Cleaner $25
Senna Cream to Powder Foundation Palette (Medium-Dark) $65
Ben Nye Banana Powder $12
Model In A Bottle - Setting Spray 2 for $27
Model In A Bottle - Makeup Remover (Freebie w/ Purchase)

These were the few things that I did get! Which I'm ready to test out all these products. I'll review each one, give my honest opinion, and possibly make video reviews.

If you've tried any of these products, let me know how they have worked for you! Talk to you soon.

Beauty On A Budget: Drugstore Favorites

Who doesn't like affordable makeup up? I know that I do. Don't you?

This topic can be a bit exciting, because every time I go to the drugstore, I'm literally spending half of my time staring at the makeup, buying what I can, and completely forget what I was going to get.

Recently, I dived into my client makeup kit and my personal makeup bag, beginning to realize that I have duplicate drugstore makeup products. Key word, duplicate, and I don't buy doubles of anything unless I know that the product works to its standards.

As an artist, my clients will ask me about a high-end product, then ask if they can find something similar & cheaper. So, I have to try a lot of products & learn about products, this way I can provide recommendations for anyone.

Ok, ok, ok... I know. Enough rambling right? I am going to share with you my favorite drugstore products. If you've tried them, let me know how they work for you. If you have any that I didn't list, that you think I should try.

I will list products you can find in your local drugstore, beauty store, or online.

NYX Slim Lip Pencil - True Red ($3.50)
I love this lip pencil more than I like any matte lipsticks. First off, it lasts me all day! I shade this color on my lips, and it looks like a matte red lipstick. I'll post a picture of me below, so that you can see how vibrant it is.

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes (Blue Pack) ($6.39)

These are incredibly soft and removes makeup wonderfully. I don't have to worry about my mascara running all over my eyelid when I use these either. Usually, I can use just one wipe or a half of wipe.

L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara ($5.89)
Although L'Oreal makes great mascara, this Voluminous makes my eyelashes amazingly bold. Which is great because I don't always have to wear false eyelashes. In fact, I have 4 of these, because I hate running out of it. It's my Holy Grail.

Ben Nye Banana Powder ($10.00)

I remember people RAVED about this product when they found out Kim Kardashian was using this. However, I decided to try it myself last year... and ever since, I've used this to set my under eye concealer. It is a beautiful finish and makes the concealer look flawless.

Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer ($12.99)

I use to use this all the time, then decided to try the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer for a few months, but it wasn't giving me the results that I wanted. Now, that I have been back to the Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer, I never put it back down. This primer does minimize my pores, my fine lines, and my flaws. I love the texture, how it goes on smoothly, and it lasts me for a long time.

Maybelline Define-A-Line Eyeliner (Soft Black) ($3.59)

I'm quite obsessed with NYX Gel Eyeliner, but I have to say I love this eyeliner, because it is super black, and beautiful. I usually have to set this with black eyeshadow on my waterline, it does smudge, but when I do a bold smokey eye, this is my go to eyeliner.

NYX Eyeshadow Base (Skin Tone) ($7.00)

Now this is a product I rave about. I hear how people rave about the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer... lets just say that I bought it and it does the same exact job as the NYX Eyeshadow base, but even better, in my opinion. This intensify my eyeshadow, it is long lasting, and prevents fallout. Plus they have three different types of bases, from white, white pearl, and skin tone. You can't beat that.

Alright, so now that I've shared a few products I love. Tell me about drugstore products that you love. I'm always interested in trying something new.

How To: Reuse False Eyelashes

Yes, we all have our favorite pair of eyelashes we hate to toss out, right? Well my little secret is that I will reuse them a few times before I toss them out. Not only do you get plenty of wear out of them, but you can save money, and what better way to start the year off?

Materials Needed
1 Paper Towel
1 Cup/Bowl
Tweezers
Clean Mascara Wand
Rubbing Alcohol
Dirty False Eyelashes
Water (Optional)

Step 1
Take 1/4 cup of alcohol and pour it into your cup or bowl. (It is optional if you will like to add water with the alcohol)

Step 2
Add your false eyelashes to the bowl of alcohol. Allow them to sit for 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 3
Take one eyelash out, place onto the paper towel, use the tweezers to remove the glue, and be very gentle.

Step 4
With one finger hold the tip of the eyelash, then use the clean mascara wand and brush through the eyelash to remove the dirt and mascara.

Step 5
Let it sit to dry.

Step 6
Then repeat.

Tip: Depending on how well the eyelashes are upkept, you can get 3 to 5 (possibly more) wears out of them by using these steps.
